Anyone can become a Hero for Hope. One example: Rather than receiving gifts to celebrate their birthdays, Mitch and Cooper Robinson asked family and friends to make charitable donations to organizations they selected. Being typical boys, most of these were sports connected. Around the time of Cooper's 11th birthday, NFL player Kevin Everett became spinal cord injured during a Buffalo Bills game. Cooper asked his parents, Suzanne and Mark, if they knew any charities that help people with spinal cord injuries. They reminded him that he already knew a racecar driver who suffered such an injury and had started a foundation. Cooper's response: "Oh yeah, Sam!" Cooper and Mitch are big racing fans and had met Sam several times, as their dad served as the PR rep for Firestone in the IndyCar and Indy Lights series. When Cooper designated the Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation as his birthday charity, friends and family made donations to SSPF in his honor. A big thank you to Cooper!
