REEVE ACT PASSED TODAY
A message from Ida Cahill, CEO

The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act (CRPA), which focuses on advancing research in paralysis and improving quality of life for those living with paralysis, was signed today by President Barack Obama and is a victory for groups like Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation.

Sam Schmidt raced his way through a successful Indy League racing career.  But an accident during a practice run on the Walt Disney World speedway in 2000 changed his life forever when he sustained spinal cord injuries, which paralyzed him from the chest down.

“This is a wonderful day for all of us in wheelchairs; it brings us one day closer when we can put a ‘for sale’ sign on our chairs,” said Sam Schmidt, Founder of Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation. “I am grateful to those in Washington who worked to pass the bill.  Chris was a hero to me and I’m personally grateful for all he’s done to change lives, including mine.”

Ida Cahill, President of Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation adds, “Having personally worked with Dana and Christopher Reeve, I am absolutely overjoyed that the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act has finally become law.  This bill will move research forward, help quality of life issues for millions, and is a meaningful tribute to a devoted couple who have done so much for the disabled.  I wish they were here today to see the result of their commitment and dedication.”
