SAM SCHMIDT PARALYSIS FOUNDATION TO HOST DAY AT RACES AT KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY
The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation and Sam Schmidt
Motorsports will be hosting several guests as a part of its "Day at the
Races" program on Friday, August 10th, at 1 p.m. in the Andretti Green
Racing hospitality tent at the Kentucky Speedway.
The event, sponsored by United Medical Providers, Kentucky Speedway, and
Andretti Green Racing, will include a catered lunch courtesy of AGR,
speeches from the foundation's president, Ida Cahill, and founder, Sam
Schmidt, and a tour of the paddock area of the Kentucky Speedway.
Also, Sam Schmidt Motorsports drivers Alex Lloyd, Ryan Justice, Logan Gomez,
and Leilani Münter will be in the tent signing autographs.
Guests include spinal cord injured patients from SCI-Step of Mason, Ohio,
the Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Center, and from Friends for Michael, Inc.
Visitors to the event will learn through the program what the work of the
foundation seeks to do and what resources may be available to them.
For many of the visitors to these events, not only will it be their first
time at a race track, but more importantly, their first time out of the
hospital.
"We've had a great turn-out to these events so far this year, and we're
looking forward to having another great crowd," Schmidt said. "I can't
thank the guys from Andretti Green enough for all the facilities they've
provided for us. They've been a huge help to our foundation in making this
and other programs a great success."
The last "Day at the Races" program for 2007 will be held at the Chicagoland
Speedway.
Also, as part of Schmidt's campaign for "Racing to Recovery," he and Cahill
will visit the University of Louisville's Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury
Research Center on Thursday.
The Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation was founded in 2000 while Schmidt was
still in the rehabilitation hospital. Its mission is to raise funds to
support spinal cord injury research which also benefits stroke victims,
people with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, ALS, and other neurological
disorders. The foundation is active in advocacy efforts benefiting the
disabled and funds organizations throughout the world that directly benefit
people with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities. More information
