Americans for Cures Foundation Announces Conference ro Stem Cell Advocates
Reprinted from Americans for Cures newsletter
Stem cell research advocates nationwide will gather at the State of Stem Cell Advocacy 2008 (SOSCA) conference on April 12-13, 2008. The conference is being presented by Americans for Cures Foundation (A4CF) at San Francisco's UCSF Mission Bay Conference Center.
Patient advocates and veterans who want to bolster public support and funding for stem cell research at the local and national level are invited to attend. The conference welcomes advocates representing all diseases and conditions, including newcomers as well as experienced advocates.
The keynote speaker will be Robert Klein, Chairman and co-author of California's groundbreaking Proposition 71, which passed in November 2004 and created the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). Mr. Klein also serves as the Chairman of the oversight Board of CIRM. Other confirmed and invited speakers include Don C. Reed, sponsor of California's Roman Reed Spinal Cord Injury Research Act (1999); Bernard Siegel, founder and Executive Director of the Genetics Policy Institute; Dr. Renee Reijo Pera, Stanford University; Dr. Alan Trounson, President of CIRM; and Amy Comstock Rick, President of the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR) and CEO of Parkinson's Action Network (PAN).
Americans for Cures Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, is the successor to the Alliance for Stem Cell Research.
"Our founding charter was to support the implementation of Proposition 71 by providing educational programs," said Constance McKee, Co-Executive Director of A4CF. "As stem cell science is poised to become medicine, we are reaching out nationally to Americans who are hungry for the facts, not the hype, about stem cell science. If we speak out together for cures, we can accelerate the pace at which hope becomes reality."
