Joey Murello, Ms. Wheelchair Indiana 2010 is a Noblesville, Indiana native who suffers from Friedreich's ataxia, an inherited disease that causes progressive damage to the nervous system resulting in degeneration of nerve tissue in the spinal cord. She was crowned People On Wheels’ Ms. Wheelchair Indiana 2010 during Disability Awareness Month, on March 6th, 2010. The event is a People On Wheels outreach to promote the disability community and provide a platform for a dialogue from which disabled women can address their fellow Hoosiers. Ms. Wheelchair Indiana 2010 will travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 9-15th to compete in the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant 2011. However, today’s tough economic conditions make it difficult for Ms. Wheelchair Indiana 2010 to fund the trip expenses and marketing expenses.

A variety show and silent auction to support Ms. Wheelchair Indiana 2010 will be held to help raise money for Joey’s expenses.  The organizers are looking for anyone who would be interested in participating in the variety show or would be able to contribute an item or service for the silent auction. The event is on July 17th at the Emmanuel Methodist Church, 16000 Cumberland Rd, Noblesville, Indiana from 1:00-3:00 p.m. This is free to the public and there is no cost to participate (free will donation).  Contact Mark Talamantes via email at m_talamantes09@hotmail.com or cell 317-450-3972.

Without a doubt, the month of May is the busiest time of year for former IndyCar racer and current team owner, Sam Schmidt, with the Indianapolis 500, Freedom 100, and his Racing to Recovery Gala all taking place within days of each other.  Schmidt began this month with yet another event.  For the second year in a row, he participated in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's Centennial Era Balloon Festival presented by AT&T.

The link above will take you to a story done by RTV6 in Indianapolis who joined Schmidt during his ride in the air. Enjoy!
